Collars, Size & Weight

Swedish Collar offers various sizes and materials to ensure a comfortable, secure fit. The elliptical design allows for a snug fit without discomfort. The collars come in stainless steel and aluminum, with the stainless steel being heavier. To get the most value from the collar, it’s important to choose the correct size and material.

If you’re unsure which size to choose, you can send pictures of your measurement to Swedish Collar’s email (info@swedishcollar.com) for help choosing the best size. If you need to exchange the size or material, you can do so by paying for shipping (about 60€). Swedish Collar will assist with the shipping process and provide labels.

To measure the size of your neck for a Swedish Collar, use a flexible band. You can get a free flexible band at your nearest IKEA. The collar sizes are in millimeters (mm). If your flexible band is in inches, use the conversion rate of 1 inch = 25.4mm.

To measure the neck circumference, wrap the band around the widest part of the neck. See the picture for more details.

To determine the best fit for a stainless steel collar, different sizes will be tested on a male neck with a circumference of 390mm. The collar sizes used in the pictures are 377mm, 393mm, and 409mm, which are chosen around the measured size of the neck. The stainless steel collar has some weight, so it’s important to get a snug fit to support the weight.

Pictures 1 & 2
Version 50mm, size 377mm

The 50mm stainless steel collar with a size of 377mm provides a snug fit on the neck. The weight of the collar is well-supported by the fit. Although the collar is smaller than the measured size of the neck, there is enough space for Adam’s apple and the collar is comfortable to wear.

Pictures 3 & 4
Version 50mm, size 393mm

The size 393mm also fits, but it does not provide a snug fit. In the side view, it can be seen that the collar is hanging slightly lower and there is some space visible.

Pictures 5 & 6
Version 50mm, size 409mm

The size 409mm looks good from the front, but it hangs down when viewed from the side. The weight of the collar is not supported by a good fit on the neck, but rather hangs on the back of the neck. This fit can be uncomfortable after a while, causing stress on the back of the neck.

Summary of sizes for the male neck

To choose the correct size, start by measuring the neck circumference. All Swedish Collar collars are elliptical and made from a single piece of metal using 5-axis CNC machines. The elliptical shape provides a good fit for the neck. To measure the neck circumference, place the measuring band over Adam’s apple, as shown in the pictures above. In the example above, it’s shown that a size smaller than the measured size fits well. The desired tightness of the collar may vary from person to person, but if you want a snug fit, do not add anything to the measurement. A snug fit supports the weight of the collar, which should be taken into consideration when deciding on the correct size.

Different sizes tested on the female neck

In the side view, the female neck has a circumference of 315mm. The following sizes will be tested on this neck: a size smaller than the measured size and two sizes larger. The tests will also use two different versions, 40mm and 50mm. The sizes for the collars are chosen close to the measured size. The sizes for the collars in the following series are shown below.

The female neck on the right measures 315mm. To get a good idea of which sizes fit, the collars below are chosen. There are two different versions of the height, 40mm, and 50mm. The sizes are chosen around the measured neck, 314mm, 330mm, and 346mm.

Pictures 1 & 2
Version 40mm, size 314

The 40mm stainless steel collar with a size of 314mm provides a snug fit on a neck with a circumference of 315mm. The weight of the collar is well-supported by the fit. Although the collar is smaller than the measured size of the neck, there is enough space for Adam’s apple and the collar is comfortable to wear. When comparing the 40mm version to the 50mm version, the 40mm version may feel larger than the 50mm version, depending on the length of the neck and personal preference.

Pictures 3 & 4
Version 40mm, size 330

The size 330mm also fits, but the snug fit is not achieved. In the picture from the side, it is possible to see that the collar is hanging down a little and some space is visible to the side.

Pictures 5 & 6
Version 40mm, size 346

The size 346mm looks good from the front, but it hangs down when viewed from the side. The weight of the collar is not supported by a good fit on the neck, but rather hangs on the back of the neck. This fit can be uncomfortable after a while, causing stress on the back of the neck.

The 50mm stainless steel collar with a size of 314mm provides a snug fit on a neck with a circumference of 315mm. The weight of the collar is well-supported by the fit. Although the collar is smaller than the measured size of the neck, there is enough space for Adam’s apple and the collar is comfortable to wear. Pictures 9 & 10

The size 330mm also fits, but the snug fit is not achieved. In the picture from the side, it is possible to see that the collar is hanging down a little and some space is visible to the side.

Pictures 11 & 12
Version 50mm, size 346

The size 346mm looks good from the front, but looking from the side, the collar is really hanging down. The weight is not supported but hangs on the backside of the neck. This fit can be tough after some time, putting stress on the backside of the neck.

Summary of sizes for the female neck.

To choose the correct size for a Swedish Collar, start by measuring the neck circumference. All Swedish Collar collars are elliptical and made from a single piece of metal using 5-axis CNC machines. The elliptical shape provides a good fit for the neck. To measure the neck circumference, place the measuring band over Adam’s apple, as shown in the pictures above. Similar to the example for the male neck, it’s shown that a size smaller than the measured size fits well.

The desired tightness of the collar may vary from person to person, but if you want a snug fit, do not add anything to the measurement. A snug fit supports the weight of the collar, which should be taken into consideration when deciding on the correct size. In the examples above, two different versions were tested: the 40mm and the 50mm. The 50mm version is slightly taller and thicker (10mm compared to 8mm at the waist for the 40mm), so it may feel tighter than the 40mm version. The size is the same, but the 50mm covers more of the neck. If the 50mm of one size feels tight, the same size in the 40mm version may fit perfectly.
