Swedish Collar provides many sizes to get the best possible fit for the person wearing the collar. The elliptic design allows a snug tight fit without getting uncomfortable. The stainless-steel collars give the customer, the proper weight, but the collars in aluminum are about half the weight from the stainless steel.
To get the best value out of your Swedish Collar, it is important to choose the correct size and the right version. When you get the best fit, your collar will hug you for a secure feeling. Choosing the stainless-steel, it is more important to get the snug fit to support the weight from the collar.
Below is a guide with examples for you to get the correct measurement and help you decide for the correct size. Below is also a table where weight is presented for the different common versions. The easiest way to show the way to decide the size is to give examples with pictures. Below is one male neck and one female neck. Different collar sizes will be presented on these necks and different versions of height as well.
Making the measurement
Start the process by measuring the size of the neck. To do this you need a flexible band. These flexible bands can be found for free at your nearest IKEA ?. The collar sizes are presented in millimeters (mm). If you are using a flexible band graded in inch, the conversion rate is 25,4.
1 inch = 25,4mm.
The picture below describes how to measure the circumference of the neck. Put the measuring band around the neck where the neck is as widest.

To show which collars that fit the best, different collars will be presented on these necks. This guide will use only stainless-steel collars. The stainless-steel collar gives some weight, which should be supported by the best possible fit to the neck.
Different sizes tested on the male neck 390mm
In the pictures above, the male neck measures 390mm. The following collars will be tested on this neck. There are three sizes in the pictures below. The sizes for the collars are chosen around the measured size for the neck. One collar is smaller 377mm and two collars are larger 393mm and 409mm.

Version 50mm, size 377mm
The collar 50mm stainless steel with size 377mm gives a snug fit. The weight from the collar is very well supported by the fit. Even though the collar is smaller than what we actually measured for this neck, there is enough space for the “Adam’s apple” and the collar is comfortable to wear.
Version 50mm, size 393mm
The size 393mm also fits, but the snug fit is not achieved. In the picture from the side, it is possible to see that the collar is hanging down a little and some space is visible.
Version 50mm, size 409mm
The size 409mm looks good from the front, but looking from the side, the collar is really hanging down. The weight is not supported by the good fit from the neck, but hanging on the backside of the neck. This fit can be tough after some time, putting stress on the backside of the neck.
Summary of sizes for the male neck
To decide the correct size, the process starts by measuring the circumference of the neck. All collars made from Swedish collar are elliptic and manufactures in 5-axis CNC machines from one solid piece of metal. The elliptic form supports the fit of the neck very well. The measurement of circumference should be done over the “Adam´s apple” like the pictures presented above.
In the example above, it is shown that the size smaller than actually measured fits very well. This is really from one person to another to decide how tight the collar should fit, but if the snug fit should be achieved, do not add anything to the measurement. The snug fit supports the weight from the collar, which should be considered when deciding for the correct size.
Different sizes tested on the female neck
In the picture to the side, the female neck was measured to 315mm. In the examples below, different sizes will be tested on this neck. The sizes are chosen close to what is measured. There is one size smaller than measured and two sizes larger. Tests will also be made using two different versions, 40mm and 50mm. Sizes in the following series will be shown below.

The female neck above measures 315mm. To get a good idea of which sizes that fits, the collars below are chosen. There are two different versions of the hight, 40mm, and 50mm. The sizes are chosen around the measured neck, 314mm, 330mm, and 346mm.

Version 40mm, size 314
The collar 40mm stainless steel with size 314mm gives a snug fit to the neck 315mm. The weight from the collar is very well supported by the fit. Even though the collar is smaller than what we actually measured for this neck, there is enough space for the “Adam’s apple” and the collar is comfortable to wear. Comparing the version 40mm to the 50mm, the version 40mm can feel larger than the higher version 50mm. This is of course also depending on the length of the neck and up to the person to decide.
Version 40mm, size 330
The size 330mm also fits, but the snug fit is not achieved. In the picture from the side, it is possible to see that the collar is hanging down a little and some space is visible to the side.
Version 40mm, size 346
The size 346mm looks good from the front, but looking from the side, the collar is really hanging down. The weight is not supported, but hanging on the backside of the neck. This fit can be tough after some time, putting stress on the backside of the neck.
Version 50mm, size 314
The collar 50mm stainless steel with size 314mm gives a snug fit to the neck 315mm. The weight from the collar is very well supported by the fit. Even though the collar is smaller than what we actually measured for this neck, there is enough space for the “Adam’s apple” and the collar is comfortable to wear. Comparing the version 40mm to the 50mm, the version 50mm can feel smaller than the higher version 40mm. This is of course also depending on the length of the neck and up to the person to decide.
Version 50mm, size 330
The size 330mm also fits, but the snug fit is not achieved. In the picture from the side, it is possible to see that the collar is hanging down a little and some space is visible to the side.
Version 50mm, size 346
The size 346mm looks good from the front, but looking from the side, the collar is really hanging down. The weight is not supported, but hanging on the backside of the neck. This fit can be tough after some time, putting stress on the backside of the neck.
Summary of sizes for the female neck.
Similar to the example for the male neck, it is shown that the size smaller than actually measured fits very well. Again, it is really from one person to another to decide, but if the snug fit should be achieved, do not add anything to the measurement. The snug fit supports the weight from the collar, which should be considered when deciding for the correct size.
In the examples above two different versions were tested, the 40mm and the 50mm. Because the 50mm is a bit higher and also thicker (10mm compared to 8mm at the waist for the 40mm), the 50mm collar could actually feel tighter than the 40mm. The size is exactly the same, but the 50mm cover more of the neck. If the 50mm of one size feels tight, the same size in 40mm could appear to be perfect.
Weight
The Swedish Collar comes in different materials. You as a customer are able to make your own design and you can choose between (S) Stainless-steel (316L), (B) Tin-bronze (CC483K), (A) Aluminium (AW-6082), and (M) Brass (SS5170). Below are two charts presenting the weight in gram (g) for the most common designs for the two different versions provided, 40mm and 50mm.
